Some quotes worth pondering

The way we deal with loss shapes our capacity to be present to life more than anything else. The way we protect ourselves from loss may be the way in which we distance ourselves from life.

-Rachel Naomi Remen

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I began to realize that my identity depended not on any beliefs I had, inherited beliefs or manufactured beliefs, but my identity actually depended on how much attention I was paying to things that were other than myself.

-David Whyte

A mystic is anyone who has the gnawing suspicion that the apparent discord, brokenness, contradictions, and discontinuities that assault us every day might conceal a hidden unity.

-Lawrence Kushner

Sometimes it’s easier [for your brain] to change reality than to change expectations.

-Erik Vance (on the placebo effect)

Disappointments are to the soul what thunderstorms are to the air.

-Friedrich Schiller

  1. Thank you for the new reflections.

Houses do isolate. One of the new doctors who arrived in Manhattan came to College Avenue UMC and admitted that after almost 6 months she and her husband had not hosted anyone. They purchased a huge house with a huge kitchen but were so busy at work and tired they couldn’t seem to enjoy company.

    Hope you are doing well.

I hope the job and pay are working in your favor.

Toland reads us a bedtime story on Facebook on Monday nights. He picks silly books and giggles…what fun!

    Grateful,

    1. Good to hear from you!

Yes, I am very thankful for my job in the current environment, even though it’s been a struggle transitioning to a whole new way of doing things. But we’re all learning together.

So glad you can enjoy time with Toland over Facebook! That sounds like a lot of fun. 🙂

      Happy Easter!

    I have missed your reflections.

We hope all is well with you!

Toland comes to spend the night once a week. Now with school it is always on weekends or days off from school. I am sure we will have him a few days over the holidays.

It was fun to gather on FaceTime as a family. I hope the vaccines and masks will help prevent that from becoming a tradition.

MB has shown us the work done on their house by Edison…it looked great. I have tools I could pass along to you if needed. It sounds like a huge project to remodel a house. I have some demo tools if you need them.

And we hope the truck is doing well.

Did you get your Christmas card?

    Love, L&P
